On a deep, heavy jet-black obi, gold thread and gold leaf (gold coloring) are lavishly applied, emitting a dazzling, luxurious brilliance that shimmers with every movement. The design meticulously depicts auspicious patterns, such as wave patterns symbolizing longevity and prosperity, and auspicious birds, in a traditional shikishi-tori/dankawari (segmented) composition. The patterns appear plump and three-dimensional as if embroidered, a unique charm exclusive to Karaori weaving. This obi is of a grade suitable for the finest formal attire such as Kuro-tomesode (black formal kimono), Iro-tomesode (colored formal kimono), Homongi (visiting kimono), and Furisode (long-sleeved kimono).
