I was using it with direct mounting, using short screws that fit the screw threads. There are likely scratches, rust, dirt, chips, peeling, and other signs of wear, as it is a used item. It was working without any problems before removal, but please understand that it is sold as-is, no returns or exchanges. The base of one of the ears seems to be reinforced or joined with solder, so you may want to handle it with some care. I was using it without any issues.
