Handmade live bait fishing rig, also known as "nomase" fishing rig. The main feature is that the overall length of the rig is set to be slightly longer, prioritizing the fish's appetite and making it less likely for the bait fish to weaken. Also, the distance between the main hook and the secondary hook is approximately 20cm, which is wider than commercially available rigs. This allows for easier baiting of larger fish, and prevents the secondary hook from getting stuck in a vital area of the fish, weakening it. If the distance is too short, the secondary hook becomes ineffective. The main and secondary hooks are fixed, reducing the chance of the fish escaping when setting the hook. The photos show flounder and bluefish caught with this rig, and it has been successfully used in shore fishing without any issues. Flounder were caught using the "bukkomi" method (bottom fishing), and bluefish were caught using float fishing. The rig uses a Yo-Zuri snap swivel (breaking strength: 12kg) and the Palomar knot for tying the line. The main hook is a Kingfisher Chinu hook size 7, and the secondary hook is a Kingfisher Chinu hook size 6. A soft glow-in-the-dark bead is attached to the main hook to prevent the bait fish from escaping. The leader is approximately 1.1m of Seaguar boat leader fluorocarbon line, size 8. The hooks are tied using the "ear-attached outside knot" because it provides a certain level of strength and the hook points are slightly inward, making it easier for the fish to suck in the bait. When baiting with small fish like horse mackerel, small mackerel, Japanese sardines, or gizzard shad, the main hook is hooked through the nose, mouth, or back, and the secondary hook is hooked through the tail or back. For small fish like anchovies, the secondary hook is used freely depending on the size. The overall length of the rig and the distance between the main and secondary hooks are around 15-25cm, but please understand that there may be some variation due to being handmade.
