This is a 2.2-shaku shakuhachi flute in the Kinko school style. The maker's mark is unreadable. Recommended for those who find a 2-shaku flute insufficient but a 2.4-shaku flute too long. I used it for solo performances of classical honkyoku pieces and komuso music. For reference, I used this flute for copying the pieces on Mr. Katsuya Yokoyama's albums, such as: "Ubune," "Oriba," "Yamakoshi," "Mitani," and "Shogan-ken Reibo." The bamboo material has a flat grain, making it easy to hold, and the mouthpiece is made shallower than modern flutes, making meri-komi (pitch bending) easier to control. The tone is soft and deep, with a good balance between the high and low registers.
