Dimensions: Main body: Diameter: Approximately 140mm Height: Approximately 93mm Wooden box (kyobako): Length: Approximately 165mm Width: Approximately 165mm Height: Approximately 125mm Paper box: Length: Approximately 185mm Width: Approximately 190mm Height: Approximately 150mm Thank you very much for viewing this item from among the many listings on Mercari. This is a tea ceremony utensil, a "kensui" (waste water container), a Karagane (bronze) "Esubako Kensui" made by the 13th generation Gorosaburo Kanaya, with a written inscription by Myogensai. While there is some evidence of use, it is in relatively good condition. The 13th generation Gorosaburo Kanaya inherited the copper craft techniques from the Edo period and is a master craftsman in Karagane. He used the traditional Karagane Esubako style, which is open at the top like a bag, and made fine adjustments to the thickness and color of the copper. This work is a fine piece with a subdued black-brown Karagane and a slight cast skin texture, adding a quiet elegance and strength to the tea ceremony. On the underside of the lid, there is a careful inscription by Myogensai, confirming the origin and design of the utensil. Please check the photos for details.
