This is a classic style 4-hon choshi (key) shakuhachi made of smoked madake bamboo. * Tube length: 46cm * Diameter near the mouthpiece: 21.5mm, diameter near the foot: 21mm * Mouthpiece size: 13mm (vertical) x 10mm (horizontal) * Inner surface coated with black lacquer * Reflector: beeswax This is smoked madake bamboo directly sourced from a famous bamboo shop in Kyoto. The material is somewhat hard, and while the smoked color is generally light, there are also some darker areas. The tuning is based on the Shishida scale. It is very easy to handle, and I believe anyone can use it. I made it with the aim of achieving the same ease of playing as a general shinobue (transverse bamboo flute), even up to the high "shigi" notes, while still producing the rich sound characteristic of smoked madake bamboo.
