The first generation, Chuji Fukagawa, built it by referring to the Wedgwood workshop he visited in England. Since its founding, Fukagawa Seiji has inherited a unique manufacturing process, consistently handling all the processes necessary for the completion of porcelain in-house, from making the clay to mixing the paints. Because they can freely combine shapes, patterns, and colors, they can achieve deep design expressions in each work. In a tense environment where there is no going back if even one step fails, the craftsmen in charge of each process gather their skills and work together to create the works. Among the many processes, the characteristics of Fukagawa Seiji are the clay making, the in-house mixed paints and painting, and the higher-than-usual firing temperature. The brilliant blue called "Fukagawa Blue" and the translucent white porcelain that you can see through when held up to the light – this unparalleled beauty is supported by solid techniques. It is fired at approximately 1350°C, which is 50 to 100°C higher than the general firing temperature. Even with a difference of only 50°C, the porcelain becomes more unstable, closer to a liquid state, so the risk and difficulty increase significantly. During the firing process, which takes 13 to 14 hours, the craftsmen constantly monitor the color of the fire to maintain the optimal temperature and environment inside the kiln. By thoroughly firing while removing oxygen at high temperatures, the transparent white and vivid blue colors, which are synonymous with Fukagawa Seiji, are brought out, resulting in lightweight and highly durable items.
