I purchased this FERNANDES LE-1Z from a flea market and replaced the tremolo block with a thicker brass one, which required some minor body modifications. Also, I changed the set screws on the bridge saddles for strings 1, 2, 5, and 6 from 10mm to 8mm. This prevents my right hand from hurting. I polished the frets and strung it with Ernie Ball Super Slinky (09-42) strings. A tutorial DVD is included. It's unopened, so I can't rate it. It's just a bonus. The body thickness is 40mm, so the replacement tremolo block is 36mm high (see photo 5). It's made of brass and has a substantial weight. The sound is clearly more Strat-like with a bell-like resonance, and the sustain has improved. For reference, photo 6 shows the thin die-cast block that was installed before the replacement. The body is alder, and the neck and fretboard are maple. The pickups (see photo 8) are covered with what appears to be metal on the back, and I couldn't determine whether they are Alnico or ceramic. The string height at the 12th fret is approximately 1.25mm for all strings (1-6). (Please allow for slight variations). This is generally considered low, so it should be very easy to play. The pickup selector switch had some crackling when I first bought it, but it has been resolved by repeatedly switching it. If it occurs again, try switching it back and forth. There are small scratches and dents, but nothing that significantly detracts from the appearance. Back panel and mounting screws are included.
