This is a collection of photographs published in the summer of 2004. The author, Daizo Tsurugi, is a photographer living in Sapporo. While making a living through work for local governments and other organizations, he frequented Atsuta Village and left behind this photo collection. Although it is labeled as "Volume 1," it is clear to anyone that funding was tight, and "Volume 2" never saw the light of day, leaving only a vast amount of negative film. In 2005, the year after publication, Atsuta, along with Hamamasu Village, which is located to the north, was absorbed into Ishikari City, becoming "Atsuta Ward" and "Hamamasu Ward," respectively. The final days of Atsuta as a "village" are condensed into this single volume. -------------------- As someone who helped the author with his work as a fellow Atsuta fan, I have a dozen or so copies. It has been many months since I last contacted the author, and I would like to give away this photo collection to those who love Atsuta or are interested in it, keeping one copy for myself. Blessed with a natural harbor, memories of the time when many people came and went for herring fishing, the unpretentious lives of the people, and the gentle nature that beautifully envelops them... I hope that as many people as possible will feel the charm of this now quiet seaside town, located just north of the metropolis of Sapporo. The book also includes the stunning view of the "Amoi Cave," a scenic spot on Ruran Coast that is now inaccessible due to the relocation of the national highway in 2003.
