Purchased over ten years ago, used 5-6 times. There is rust and dirt because I didn't use them for scratching each time. I didn't use them for hard winter mountain climbing or climbing. They are still in usable condition. They are semi-automatic type and use the heel welt of mountaineering boots. The toe welt is not needed. The straps are uncut and the original length.
