When you think of a one-stroke carved dog, it often has a left-facing pose with a beautifully visible left-curling tail, and this one seems to be a standard pose as well. Despite the rough chisel marks like those of Naguri, the large size well expresses the feeling of a sturdy body. Wooden bear carvings are often found in this size, but dogs are a bit unusual. There's a stamp on the sole of the foot, but it's blurred and unreadable... Is it a work of art (Geihin)? The workshop is unknown.
