The maker himself repaired it. While we could only assume it was due to a shipping accident, when I contacted the maker, I was told that this particular piece was one of his most confident creations, so I chose repair over replacement. The lacquer finish blends in naturally, and it doesn't significantly detract from the appearance. There are no issues with the sound or playing. I have included multiple photos to clearly show the repair. Overall, it's in beautiful condition, and I believe you'll enjoy using it. I hope to sell it to someone who understands the repair history.
