Akahada-yaki ware is said to have originated in the Tensho era when Toyotomi Hidenaga, the lord of Yamato Koriyama Castle, invited Yokuro, a potter from Owari Tokoname, to open a kiln. The current Akahadayamamoto Kiln (Kozan Kose, Nakano Kiln/Jihei) began when Jihei, the founder of the kiln, who entered Gojo-yama at the foot of Mt. Akahada from Kyoto around the Tenmei era (1781-), revived Akahada-yaki at the behest of Kozan, who was also known as a tea master and the lord of Yamato Koriyama Castle, Yasumitsu Yanagisawa. The tradition of the Akahadayamamoto Kiln has been preserved and passed down to the present day through the efforts of successive Jihei, who took the name "Kozan" after the character "Kozan" from Lord Yanagisawa. We believe our mission is to find the true value of the original traditional craft of Akahada, which has spanned eight generations, in a rich harmony of classic and modern styles and the beauty of its uses, and we are working hard to achieve this.
