I've always wanted one, whenever I crossed Gojo Bridge or the Shomen Bridge to the south, looking at the decorative baluster ornaments. I was fortunate enough to obtain one the other day. Its black appearance with almost no verdigris suggests it was kept under the roof of a temple or similar, rather than on a bridge. There are some dents and distortions, but it's still a beautiful form. There is cement inside the base. It's heavy, probably because it's also packed inside. Also, perhaps because some of the cement is chipped inside, it makes a rattling sound when shaken. I believe it dates from the Meiji era or later, but it could be earlier. Originally, there may have been more parts below this. Height: Approximately 19.5cm The size is approximate. The actual item may differ slightly in color from the images. As it is an old item, there are age-related scratches and stains.
