This is an otonao (sound string) for jiuta shamisen. I use it on my thicker Tsugaru-jamisen (Gidayu). Because it's the same width as the thread path on the koma (bridge), the strings are aligned straight, resulting in a clear, crisp sound that resonates well with the tenjin (headstock).
