Handmade items Sword mallet set (wakizashi - tanto): This is an unused sword mallet set used to remove the hilt (tsukamaki) of a Japanese sword, which is the part held by the hand, from the wakizashi (short sword) and tanto (dagger). See photo 5 for an example of use. Using a separate mekugi-nuki (peg remover), you tap the wooden block with the mallet as shown in the photo to remove the peg.
