A large Chinese Qing Dynasty Qianlong period lidded box. The size is 27.5 cm in diameter and 18 cm in height. The entire surface is beautifully decorated with butterflies, gourds, and flowers in a balanced composition, painted with exquisite famille rose enamels. This design is called "katetsumenmen" and has long been considered an auspicious motif for the prosperity of descendants in China. There is some staining and a chip on the part where the lid and body meet, but it is a valuable item that has survived without cracking.
