This is "Sagara Ningyo," one of the three major earthen dolls of the Tohoku region, along with "Tsutsumi Ningyo" of Sendai and "Hanamaki Ningyo" of Hanamaki. This work is by Takashi Sagara, the seventh generation of doll makers. The work is imbued with wishes for a bountiful harvest and prosperity. Daikon radish was suitable as a winter storage vegetable and, due to its pure white color, is considered a celebratory food. It is a beautiful work with vibrant colors and carefully crafted details. As I have never seen this motif before, it is considered valuable. - Although it still looks good at a glance, it is an old item, so it is being sold with some scratches and stains.
