In the Nagi-Sokyo region, since the Edo period, beautiful hardwoods such as keyaki (Japanese zelkova), tochi (Japanese horse chestnut), sen-no-ki (Japanese lime), shioji (Japanese ash), and hinoki (Japanese cypress) grown in the Kiso Valley have been turned on a lathe and actively produced as a specialty product. The craftsmanship passed down through generations is characterized by the beauty of the wood grain and a gentle touch. Photos 1, 3, and 4 appear slightly lighter in color than they actually are; the actual color is a bit darker. Although it is new and unused, it has been stored at home for a considerable amount of time, so the box has signs of aging and soiling (Photos 6, 7, 10).
