Thank you for viewing. This is a special exhibition from an old family's collection. This is a genuine, distinguished item with a Wajima-nuri lacquerware box. It features a lovely design of golden bamboo and sparrows on jet-black lacquer! Bamboo is one of Japan's representative auspicious patterns, also included in the "Sho-Chiku-Bai" (pine, bamboo, and plum) combination. Bamboo, being evergreen and fast-growing, has been revered as a symbol of vigorous vitality. Its straight growth towards the sky evokes a strong sense of life force. Along with the bamboo grass, it is also believed to ward off evil and is often used in Shinto rituals. Sparrows are said to be the most familiar birds and appear in old folk tales. Bamboo groves are the sparrows' homes. They have also been used extensively in family crests and patterns. Their familiar, adorable appearance and chirping sounds evoke a peaceful natural landscape. "Fukura-suzume" (plump sparrow) is an auspicious pattern, also written as "Fuku-rai-suzume" (fortune-coming sparrow). Due to the cute, plump appearance of the sparrows, they are often used on children's clothing and toys. The name is also used in gorgeous obi (sash) tying styles. This item is about 50 years old. Please enjoy the craftsmanship of the time. It is an item that took time and effort. Although it is in good condition for an old lacquerware, there are minor scratches on the underside of the lid and corners, and some lacquer peeling, but none of these affect its use. Please be aware that the family name is written in gold letters on the lower right of the back before purchasing. We hope that those who understand old, antique items will consider this. Sold as is. Please enjoy it in the coming seasons. We also plan to exhibit soup bowls. For those who appreciate authenticity. We have other wonderful tableware available.
