[Konosuke Matsushita] Founder of the Panasonic (formerly Matsushita Electric Industrial) Group, founder of the PHP Institute. Born in Wakayama Prefecture in 1894. At the age of 9, he went to Osaka alone and worked at a hibachi store and a bicycle shop before working at Osaka Electric Light (now Kansai Electric Power). In 1918, at the age of 23, he founded Matsushita Electric Appliance Manufacturing (renamed Matsushita Electric Industrial in 1935 when it was reorganized as a corporation). In 1946, he founded the PHP Institute with the slogan "Peace and Happiness through Prosperity." In 1979, he established the Matsushita Institute of Government and Management with the aim of training leaders to lead the 21st century.
