Because it's velvet, I brushed it, but please understand that dust and the like are unavoidable due to the nature of the fabric. I lost the bottom button, so I repaired it myself. I haven't worn it many times, but there is some wear and tear. How about wearing it as a coat, or as a long jacket with a coat over it?
