Frank Stella is considered one of the most influential American artists of the post-war generation. From the late 1950s to the early 1960s, he led painting from Abstract Expressionism to Minimalism. Stella's work has evolved from black and white striped paintings (which he created at the beginning of his career) to the irregular shaped canvases of the bold "Polish Village" series of the 1970s, to 3D printed sculptures created in the 2010s. Although the artist is known for his stylistic innovations, he considers all of his works to be part of a continuum. Stella became the youngest artist to have a retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1970 at the age of 33, solidifying his position in art history. Since then, he has enjoyed major solo exhibitions at the Royal Academy of Arts, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Kunstmuseum Basel, and his works belong to public collections around the world.
