Extremely rare Ray Robinson cup mute for trumpet, fully restored, manufactured in the 1930s. There are some signs of use, such as scratches and slight paint剥がれ. The restoration was done by Roger Ingram, known as "Mute Meister" and still active as a lead trumpet player. I purchased it directly from Mr. Roger Ingram nearly 10 years ago. Early Ray Robinson cup mutes had three felt-covered protrusions as shown in the photo, and a sticker instructed to "FILE CORKS SO FELTS TOUCH BELL," indicating that the cork should be filed down until it touched the bell. This is different from the later "FILE CORKS IF NECESSARY" notation. The original corks were quite thick, and it was faster to reapply new ones than to file them down, so the original corks were removed, which caused some paint to peel off. (New corks have been applied over the area, making it difficult to see.) At the time, Mr. Ingram was selling a considerable number of restored mutes, but this cup mute, manufactured in the 1930s, was among the most expensive. I am selling it as I declutter.
