In anticipation of the 1500V overhead line voltage upgrade in 1973, Nankai Electric Railway introduced a large number of new commuter trains. The 7100 series, with a total of 152 cars manufactured from 1969, was one of them. As part of the "Kada Sakana Line Project" that began in 2016, a two-car, one-man operation train was decorated with a sea bream motif and called the "Medetai Densha" (Celebratory Train). As of the summer of 2021, four colors have appeared, and the red-based 7197 formation "Nana" appeared in March 2019. From the summer of 2021, the "Sumikko Gurashi × Nankai Electric Railway" campaign was held, and the "Nana" formation was wrapped with "Sumikko Gurashi" characters and stories on the windows and doors.
