Tsugaru-nuri is a durable and beautiful lacquerware with a history of over 300 years. It is said to have originated in the Tsugaru domain during the Kanbun era (1661-1673) for industrial development. The processes of applying, grinding, and polishing the lacquer are repeated 38 to 48 times. It is also known as "baka-nuri" (fool's lacquer) because of the immense effort and time invested. It takes 3 to 6 months to complete a single piece.
