It preserves the tradition from the Ryukyu Kingdom era and is all handmade, so it was designated as a National Important Intangible Cultural Property in 2004. The fabric quality is plump and supple to the touch, comfortable to wear, and has a tasteful texture that feels wonderful. The manufacturing method is done by hand, and one person performs the pattern selection, dyeing (it seems that in the case of plant dyeing and mud dyeing, they dye about 100 times to produce a blackish brown color), and weaving processes. Some of the raw yarn is produced by sericulture farmers on the island, and all the dyes use locally grown Smilax china (Gool) etc., and mud dyeing is also done on the island.
