There is a mark on the back that says "Amehata 12th Generation." It appears to be the work of Aiseki Negishi, the 12th generation of Amehata in Koshu. It is a large and heavy inkstone. It comes with a perfectly fitting wooden lid. The lid has been maintained by occasionally applying oil such as linseed oil to prevent cracking. This item belonged to a relative born in the Meiji era who was skilled at painting and calligraphy. I inherited it, although I don't practice calligraphy, but just by looking at it, I can tell it's a fine piece; the gentle curves are very beautiful and artistic. I think it has a simple and very elegant shape. I don't know if it was ever used as an inkstone. There are no traces of ink even after wiping it, so it probably hasn't been used. However, there are some scratches on the bottom and lid due to aging. There is a large scratch on the left side. Length: Approximately 18.5cm Width: Approximately 12.8cm Thickness: Approximately 3cm
