This is an Aizu lacquerware otoso (ceremonial sake) set, including a choshi (sake server), sakazuki (sake cups), and sakazuki stand. The choshi and sakazuki stand are black lacquered with gold maki-e, while the sakazuki are vermilion lacquered with gold maki-e, each depicting auspicious motifs of pine, bamboo, and plum. Some of the maki-e is high maki-e (raised finish), carefully applied. I believe this is a fine item that showcases the craftsmanship of artisans. I unearthed it from the back of a closet. The wrapping paper is heavily stained, suggesting it is quite old. There are some areas where the maki-e has discolored, but overall, it doesn't show much wear and is in good condition. Being old, the storage bag and box have stains and damage. Please understand this before purchasing. It will be shipped via either Yu-Yu or Raku-Raku Mercari delivery service.
