Kaya Kumagai Exhibition - Journey to a Foreign Land - This year marks the second anniversary of the passing of Kaya Kumagai, the second daughter of Morikazu Kumagai, a painter, and the founder of this museum. This exhibition, titled "Journey to a Foreign Land," introduces foreign landscapes from the works that Kaya Kumagai energetically traveled and painted both domestically and internationally during her lifetime. Kaya traveled extensively for research trips, including mountain climbing, skiing, and scuba diving, both domestically and internationally, sometimes spending most of the year abroad. From a young age, she was passionate about mountain climbing and skiing, and she visited not only the snowy mountains of Japan but also the Himalayas for trekking, and also went to Egypt, Mexico, Peru, and Alaska for research, and her experiences there became the subject of her illustrated collections and picture books. In 1964, despite it being her first trip abroad, she went to Paris for her father, Morikazu Kumagai's solo exhibition, and then went on to ski in the European Alps, an episode that shows her remarkable drive. As if to represent such a life of direct speech and action, all of the works are powerful and full of color and dynamism.
