The area around Mitsuke-shukuba-dori (former Tokaido Road) in the center of Iwata City was a thriving post town during the Edo period, known as Mitsuke-juku, one of the Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido. The Mitsuke Tenjin Naked Festival is the autumn festival of the Yana-hime Shrine (Mitsuke Tenjin), held over eight days. The main highlights are the Grand Festival, held on the weekend just before the old lunar calendar's August 10th, and the Hama-gori (sea purification ritual) held three days prior. The Zenkoku Renwada Group participates every year. This digital photo collection records the entirety of the beautiful and dynamic Naked Festival, a Nationally Designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. This photo collection, which is the fifth consecutive year of coverage, contains many memorable scenes from the Mitsuke Tenjin Naked Festival. The two-year collection features 830 images and a 90-minute running time, so it was made into a DVD because it wouldn't fit on a CD. It is the same as the permanent preservation edition sent to the Preservation Society and those who helped. The original 12.3-megapixel images are included, so you can print them out up to A2 size for personal enjoyment. It will be sent by regular mail as soon as it is ready.
