◻︎Product Details A carefully crafted, adorable crawling doll with shiny hair. The arms, legs, and neck joints are movable. What is a "Hōko"? "Hōko" dolls, also known as "haihai ningyo" or "haiko ningyo" (crawling dolls), were displayed during the Heian period and placed by the pillow of infants to take on illnesses and other misfortunes. They are shaped like a child crawling when placed face down, and in those days, they were made of cloth and stuffed with cotton. Because they were soft to the touch, they later became children's toys, much like modern stuffed animals. In addition to warding off evil, they were also meant to express a wish for infants to grow up healthy and crawl quickly.
