The scroll is slender, with vibrant blue mounting at the top and bottom, creating a pleasant impression. This hanging scroll is an authentic work by Fusensai, the tenth head of the Matsuo school, Sogo Matsuo, with a written inscription (photo 19) by the eleventh head, Sorin Matsuo (Hokosai). "Shoju Senjyu no Midori" (The green of the pine tree lasts a thousand years) means that the pine tree does not lose its green color even after a thousand years. It teaches the importance of keeping a calm mind, like the evergreen pine even in winter. I believe it is a line that conveys the spirit of Zen. The calligrapher, Fusensai, is known as the tenth head of the Matsuo school, Sogo. His calligraphy is powerful yet gentle, and I believe it gives viewers a sense of security and dignity.
