A set of wooden carved Nipo dolls of a married couple, received as a gift from a relative who ran a lumberyard in 1974 (Showa 49), 51 years ago. They have been carefully stored in a closet at home for a long time. Standing at approximately 40cm tall, they are large and possess a presence that sets them apart from the smaller Nipo dolls commonly found. Nipo dolls are a traditional craft of the Ainu people, and have long been cherished as "guardians of happiness" and "symbols of family safety and marital harmony." The texture of the wood, aged over time, has deepened its character, making this large-sized piece, which is difficult to obtain now, a highly valuable item. They harmonize with both Japanese-style spaces and modern interiors, adding a sense of weight and warmth just by placing them.
