Inachu Shikkogei. Wajima-nuri pair of bowls, black inside with vermilion, and vermilion inside with black, a set of two lacquerware bowls, with a special box. Wajima-nuri bowls are made by thinning the wood, applying a base of tonoko (a type of polishing powder), and lacquering and drying. They are carefully finished by attaching linen cloth to the inner bottom, rim, and foot of the bowl to make it sturdy, then lacquering and drying, and finishing with fine-grit sandpaper, followed by repeated applications of lacquer. This process results in very strong and lightweight bowls.
