This inkstone uses stone from the Namiita area of Ogatsu Town, Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture. Ogatsu stone has black stone and white stone (classified by stone color), and this is a white stone, which Hiroyuki-san also recommends. A three-dimensional plum blossom is carved on the ink well. The ink release is outstanding, and the ink color, ink emission, and ink flow are all excellent, allowing for long, flowing lines. It works well with both thick and light inks, and with both oil soot ink (brown ink) and pine soot ink (blue ink). Good for kana (~half-cut), sumi-e, sutra copying, and fine writing.
