Shimazaki (Jundai Yamada) and others built a youth dojo to advise the local youth on future independence, and they put them through rigorous training. Eventually, the war ended, and when the Netherlands and Britain tried to reoccupy the area, the members of the youth dojo began a fight for Indonesian independence = Merdeka. Shimazaki and others also stood up together... A large-scale war spectacle depicting the complex relationship between Indonesia and Japan and the historical fact that the country achieved independence from it. While I cannot fully agree with the production side's message that Japan's Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere policy led the country to independence, the battle scenes filmed on location in Indonesia for a long period of time are quite powerful. The martial appearance of the Japanese cast, including Jundai Yamada and Naoki Hosaka, also adds a nice touch.
