[8] Shape: Nomensuzuri (natural surface inkstone) with grape carving on the edge. ◉ According to documents, Akama Suzuri has a history dating back 600 years to the Muromachi period. The Akama stone is a reddish-brown, green-gray tuffaceous rock that contains iron oxide, mud, and ash, and is said to have a stone quality very similar to that of Duanxi stone from China. Due to differences in color, it is divided into purple gold stone, purple cloud stone, purple jade stone, purple blue stone, and purple stone. ◉ This work is a slightly large inkstone that makes the most of natural stone. Like Akama stone, it has a reddish-brown base with light green-blue granules appearing on the hills, and especially on the ink grinding surface, there is a star-like feature of about 3mm, making it a unique work. On the upper edge of the inkstone, the vines and grape berries are carved with a thickness of about 5mm under the grape leaves. When you place your fingertip on the inner edge, it is sharp enough to cut, clearly demonstrating the skill of the craftsman. Furthermore, the overall balance is good, and it is a clean, old work.
