This is a girl's hitotsumi (ceremonial kimono for newborns) with a juban (undershirt). Temari balls symbolize a well-rounded life, and imperial court carriages represent wealth and splendor. Hitotsumi refers to a kimono for infants aged 0-2 years old. It's easy to understand if you imagine the celebratory kimono that babies typically wear for their Hatsumiyamairi (Shinto shrine visit). A characteristic of hitotsumi is that it's made without a back seam, using standard-width fabric. When dressing a baby, there are no shoulder tucks or hip tucks, and a detachable collar is used instead of an obi (sash).
