Small flowers are drawn around gold roses, making them very cute and elegant. The background color is not pure white, but slightly ivory. The backstamp says "U.S. Design." The cups are designed for both coffee and tea and hold a generous amount. I loved using them, which is why I only have 4 cups left. While I don't see any cracks or chips, the gold on the cup rims is thin (worn) from use. There are also minor scratches and watermarks from use (visible when held up to the light).
