HAKUEI KIM "OPEN THE GREEN DOOR" 2005 DIW Records - DIW-631, Japanese pressing. "HOME BEYOND THE CLOUD" 2006 DIW Records - DIW-633, Japanese pressing. Both purchased new at the time of release. HAKUEI KIM is a pianist, born in Kyoto, a third-generation Korean resident in Japan. I listened to these albums constantly back then. He's a truly amazing virtuoso, but his piano playing has a gutsy quality that avoids being pretentious. His original compositions are also great. Even more impressive is the backing of BEN 'DONNY' WAPLES on bass and DAVE GOODMAN on drums. Their performance is a breathtaking display of skill that bass and drum enthusiasts will love. The recording quality is also superb, as praised by Yasuni Kuni Terashima. The discs have no scratches. I was able to listen to them without any skips. The liner notes and obi strip are in good condition. I was surprised to see that HAKUEI KIM's CDs from this DIW label era are selling for quite a high price in the used market.
