This is a Wajima-nuri lacquerware bowl with elegant and delicate floral maki-e (sprinkled picture). It is from my grandmother's collection. Each bowl cost tens of thousands of yen. Wajima-nuri is made by specialized craftsmen in many different processes. The maki-e uses coarse gold powder, creating a beautiful, shining, and luxurious finish, as if a gold plate has been applied.
