This is authentic oil soot ink made by "Cao Sugong" of Huizhou, China, purchased in China during the 1980s-90s. "Cao Sugong" is known as one of the four major ink shops in China, and is a traditional brand that was particularly famous in Shanghai. It is a high-grade ink that has been used in numerous national-level calligraphy and painting works and cultural properties, and is highly valued by collectors and calligraphers. The side of the ink is engraved with "徽欽書畫功勲千氏" (Huijin Shuhua Gongxun Qian Shi), the official manufacturer's name and seal, confirming that it is a genuine work. The surface is beautifully painted with a landscape scene in gold, silver, and blue, and the back is engraved with the gold characters "天保九如" (Tianbao Jiuru). It comes in a dedicated cloth-covered box and has been carefully stored unused.
