I am selling a set of six vintage special stamps from China, "Journey to the West Stamps." Symbol: T.43 Issue Date: December 1, 1979 Issuing Authority: Directorate General of Posts, People's Republic of China "Journey to the West" is a long novel by Wu Cheng'en, a writer of the Ming Dynasty in China, and is highly regarded in the history of Chinese literature. It depicts the journey of the Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang to obtain scriptures, with the adventures of Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing, characterized by its grand composition and rich imagination. This work has been adapted into various art forms in China and has also been translated into various foreign languages, exerting a wide international influence. Episode: The "Journey to the West" stamps issued in 1979 show a chronological error in Sun Wukong's attire. Although the scenes "Battle with Nezha," "Peach Garden," and "Eight Trigrams Furnace" all take place before the scripture-seeking journey, the stamps depict him in his tiger-skin skirt, which he wears after the journey. It was a primary school student in Shanghai who noticed this error, making it an interesting example of how important knowledge is in stamp appreciation. These special stamps are all centered around Sun Wukong. The designs of stamps 1 to 4 are based on the 1st to 7th chapters of the original "Journey to the West," and the designs of stamps 5 and 6 are based on the 14th chapter.
