Old Kilim from the Van-Hakkari region. This is a Canbezar, ジャンベザール design, and is one half of a two-panel piece. Although not many colors are used, it accentuates the depth of the indigo, making the single-color wolf's mouth motifs scattered on both sides appear to float. The warp threads are dyed with plant-based dyes. We sometimes see this type of dyed warp threads used in old kilims from this region. It creates a different accent from the natural wool. The differences in the motifs on the top and bottom ends, the abrash, the intentional color change in one place in the indigo, and the pink wolf's mouth in one place (bottom of the photo) all give a sense of the weaver's playfulness. It's rare to see good old kilims come on the market these days. How about adding this one to your collection? It has not been stretched, so there is some distortion on the sides even when laid flat.
