In 1973, he was invited from Los Angeles, USA, to hold a solo exhibition and received a letter of appreciation from the mayor of the city. In the same year, he lectured on the structure and firing method of climbing kilns and provided practical guidance on hand-turned potter's wheels at the University of California. In 1976, after the death of his father, he succeeded as the 4th generation Rakusai Takahashi. In the same year, he was awarded the title of Traditional Craftsman by the Minister of International Trade and Industry. In 1978, he held a solo exhibition at the Mitsukoshi Main Store. In 1991, he received the International Arts and Culture Award from the Japan Culture Promotion Association.
