I purchased this item used and have only used it indoors. There was a cut in the back cover when I bought it, but I have confirmed that it works and there are no issues with the sound. It runs on batteries only. An AC adapter cannot be used. The item is just the main unit, without the box. Also, there are no pet hairs or tobacco odors.
