The founder, Walter Vogt, in collaboration with the British watchmaker John Harwood, spent four years from 1922 to complete the "Harwood," the world's first mass-producible automatic wristwatch. This Harwood attracted attention at the Basel Fair, a watch trade show, and became the first step in spreading the FORTIS brand name to the world. The "Flieger Classic" series was born in 1987 and was a long-running model in recent years for FORTIS, gaining popularity for 29 years until production ended in 2016. It features a large dial with indexes and sword-shaped hands finished with "Super-LumiNova," a luminous paint, providing high visibility.
