This is a shakuhachi made by Kinko-ryu shakuhachi player and composer, Dodo Kaneasu, who founded the Nihon Chikudo Gakkan. Judging by the wear on the finger holes and the amber discoloration, it is presumed to be an old shakuhachi that has been played extensively. It is tuned in a traditional shakuhachi style and would be suitable for sankyoku ensemble, classical pieces, and komuso music. The tone is soft in both the otsu and kan sounds, and one can feel a warm resonance, like a gentle stream flowing through a bamboo grove. Among the many shakuhachi bearing the Kaneasu Dodo mark, this one is thought to be of a high rank, judging from the craftsmanship of the mouthpiece and the joint.
