Goyo Hashiguchi, "Women of the Taisho Era," 10 pieces, in a case Ise Washi (Japanese paper), made in Japan Goyo Hashiguchi (1881-1921) was active as a bookbinding artist and ukiyo-e researcher from the end of the Meiji era to the Taisho era. He left behind beautiful woman paintings, and was described as the "Utamaro of the Taisho era." The first work, "Woman Applying Makeup" from 1918, is astonishing, and it seems that Goyo's extensive knowledge and the essence of his ukiyo-e research are condensed in this work. Goyo used high-quality pigments for Japanese paintings instead of cheap paints for prints, so the colors are fresh and exceptionally beautiful. The color scheme is also clear, and the elegant luster of the white background adds to the dignity of the screen. This is a characteristic of Goyo's prints.
